You can watch some of the best musicals on Amazon Prime in the comfort of your own home.
Amazon Prime has a huge selection to watch including classic musicals and television specials.
However, it can be a little confusing. Not all of the musicals are included in your membership meaning some will come at an additional cost to watch.
In this blog post, I’m going to talk about the ones that are included in the subscription and that you can watch for no additional fee.
Whether you want to watch your favourites and see something new, I’m lifting to curtain on the best musicals on Amazon Prime that you can watch today!

The 14 Best Musicals On Amazon Prime
1 – Hairspray (2007)
It’s no secret that Hairspray is one of my all-time favourite musicals.
Growing up in 1950’s America, Tracy Turnblad dreams of being a star dancer on The Corny Collins Show. But, when she lands her big break he has to choose between doing what’s right and following her dreams.
Here’s my Hairspray The Musical review.
2 – Royal Wedding (1951)
Staring the legendary Fred Astaire, this old-school musical comedy was originally released as “Wedding Bells” in the UK. Set in 1947 London, two American stars are persuaded to take their show to London at the same time as the wedding of Princess Elizabeth (now Queen) and Philip Mountbatten.
3 – Cinderella (2021)
Giving the classic fairytale a modern take, Camila Cabello stars as Cinderella, an ambitious girl with dreams of becoming a fashion designer. With an amazing cast including Idina Menzel, Minnie Driver, James Corden and Pierce Brosnan, this is one version you don’t want to miss.
4 – A Hard Days Night (1964)
A musical comedy starring The Beatles, this musical is a portrayal of 36 hours in the lives of the band as they prepare for a television performance. Constantly trying to outrun fans and mini disasters, will they make it to the show on time?
5 – La La Land (2017)
The record-breaking winner of 7 awards from 7 nominations at the Golden Globes, La La Land is one of the best musicals on Amazon Prime. Starring Ryan Gosling and Emma Stone, it follows the relationship of two aspiring performers in Los Angeles, trying to make their dreams come true.
6 – Walking On Sunshine (2014)
A British jukebox musical featuring covers from popular songs from the 1980s, Walking On Sunshine is a great easy-watching musical on Amazon Prime. The main plot is about a young woman who is getting ready for her wedding in Italy, unaware that her fiance and sister were once in love.
7 – Jesus Christ Superstar (1973)
Two different versions of Jesus Christ Superstar on Amazon, but this is the only one included in Amazon Prime.
This version of Jesus Christ Superstar centres around a group of performers who travel to the desert to re-enact the Passion of Christ. The biblical story is then told by the performers and includes the songs from the Andre Lloyd Webber and Tim Rice rock opera.
8 – The Last Five Years (2014)
Personally, I think The Last Five Years is one of the most underrated musicals.
It follows the story of Jamie and Cathy who were a couple for five years but have now split up. Whilst Jamie tells the whole story from the beginning, Cathy shares her side backwards. As the details become clearer, it becomes obvious they weren’t always on the same page.
9 – Barnum (1986)
Before The Greatest Showman, there was Barnum. Starring Michael Crawford, an elderly P.T. Barnum re-tells the story of his career right from his humble beginning. This is a must-watch for anyone who loves the more recent adaptation!
10 – The Goldwyn Follies (1938)
The Goldwyn Follies is about a movie producer who chooses a girl to review his films from the perspective of an ordinary person. It’s an old musical but has some incredible dance numbers that make it worth a watch.
11 – Bravetown (2016)
When a talented DJ accidentally overdoses, he is forced to live with his estranged father in North Dakota. The film follows his journey to repair relationships and reflect on his path in life.
12 – The Best Little Whorehouse In Texas (1982)
Starring Dolly Parton and Burt Reynolds, this is the film adaptation of the 1978 Broadway musical of the same name. Miss Mona runs the Chicken Ranch, a brothel with a long history and good relationships with the rest of town. However, when an out-of-town reporter exposes the Chicken Ranch, authorities want to shut it down, putting the governor in a tricky situation.
13 – Everything Went Down (2013)
Both isolated from the world around them, a widowed professor and a struggling musician strike an unusual friendship and embrace the healing power of music.
14 – Midnight Tango (2011)
Whilst not *strictly* a musical, this filmed performance includes stunning tango vocals and unbelievable choreography. Starring Strictly Come Dancing’s Vincent Simone and Flavia Cacace, it’s a passionate show that will make you want to dust off your dancing shoes.
15 – Pitch Perfect 2 (2015)
Follow the Barden bells as they try to regain their reputation after a disastrous performance. Entering an international competition, the much-loved characters have to find a way to stand out from their strong competition.
