Believe it or not, Spring has sprung. This year is going so fast, even the weather is in denial (let to beast go back to the east) and it only feels like yesterday that I was writing my A/W fashion trend report. Even if the weather doesn’t want to admit the fact that it’s nearly Easter(?!), you can still dress for the season. To help make you update your wardrobe for spring, I’ve put together a selection of the best S/S 2018 fashion trends and even given you a few hints about where to buy them online now! So, without further ado (drum roll), I give you my Spring Summer 2018 Fashion Trend Report:
Spring Summer 2018 Trends
When I read that shorts were going to be a big fashion trend for S/S I had a bit of Homer Simpson moment. DUH! But, as temperatures rise, it’s no good just wearing any shorts, they should be power shorts or cycling shorts. Seen on the runway of Saint Laurent, Power Shorts are those cute tailored options that you usually see as part of a co-ord set. Pull & Bear have some amazing power shorts in at the moment for great prices and I particularly love the Paperbag Bermuda shorts with a belt which are shown above in the bottom left corner.
The other type of shorts is something that sends fear through my bones: cycling shorts. Not the most flattering of trends, they were seen everywhere from Dolce & Gabanna to Fenty Puma. If, like me, you’re not so keen on wearing bike shorts, try laying these Fishnet bike shorts from Boohoo under skirts or ripped shorts for an edgier, more flattering look.
In my opinion, the 90’s were an incredible decade (not biased at all), so who wouldn’t want to relive it with some throwback fashion pieces? Seen at the likes of Burberry and Chloe, the 90’s are back! All those amazing pieces you had when you were a kid? Get ready to find them on the high street. I am obsessed with the Cecilia Stripe Rib Polo T-Shirt Dress from Boohoo! Just need a pair of chunky trainers and a bubble backpack and I am living the dream.
Making up about 30% of my wardrobe, I’m so happy checks are here to stay for spring summer 2018. Balenciaga, Victoria Beckham, and Sonia Rykiel all featured heritage checks in their S/S collections and already, there are some amazing pieces just waiting to be snapped up. Want to know what I have my eye on? The Tailored skirt with fringe from Pull & Bear is a great way to introduce the fashion trend into your wardrobe, and it’s even part of a co-ord!
I know I just said the 90’s were the best decade, but the 80’s were pretty cool too. Think power dressing with nipped in waists and strong shoulders for daytime, and long legs at night. If the 80’s is what your wardrobe needs, you can’t go wrong with this beautiful blue Closet London Dress. I’m also secretly excited to see the comeback of Disco Pants, who’s with me?
Flowers and Spring go hand in hand, so a floral trend is no big news. The perfect way to brighten up your wardrobe and show your girly girl side, floral dresses were a standout trend on the Chloe catwalk. Boohoo have some absolute gems in at the moment and I am obsessed with pastel yellow statement sleeve dress. Another one has caught my eye is the Boutique Mol Vintage Floral Ruffle Maxi Dress which is ideal for a wedding.
I am a massive fan of loud prints, and when those prints have a retro vibe I am all over it. If you’re keen to get your holiday vibe going, the Tropicana trend is one you are going to want to try. Not sure? I like this Pull & Bear Tropical Print Shirt with its pink shades sem-subtle.
Wallflowers may want to skip to the next trend because this one is loud and proud. Possibly one of my favorites, rainbows of colour were seen everywhere from Missoni to Jeremy Scott. There are loads of options already on the high street, but how fab are these striped pants. Pair with a white sheer shirt or bralet and you have a standout night look.
The wipe-clean look has been around for a while, and plastic-fantastic isn’t going away soon. As a spring/summer update, I love this cute Two-Tone Zip Skirt from Boohoo. If you just want to play with the trend, choose a bum bag and tick off another huge trend that was seen at Gucci.
Ok, this may possibly be my favourite trend of the S/S 2018 season. Seen on the catwalks of Celine, Bottega Veneta, and Saint Laurent, fringing is one of the hottest textures around. Whether you go for full-on cowgirl in this Boohoo jacket, sophisticated with this River Island option or subtle with a fringed top, you can’t go wrong with some tassles.
If I’m perfectly honest with you, I’m not too keen on this trend, but as it seems to be everywhere, I thought I’d include it. Featured on catwalks such as Prabal Gurung, sheer is a big trend. Honestly? The only piece I could see myself wearing is this Topshop Trench Coat, but each to their own.
Last, but certainly not least, is all things sparkle! That’s right people, time to embrace your inner magpie and wear sequins like there is no tomorrow. Seen everywhere from Tom Ford to Chanel, sequins are huge so it’s time to shine. If you want to earn extra points, or just give a subtle nod, sparkly shoes were huge at Miu Miu, Preen, and Victoria Beckham. Personally, I can see tops like this Lamoda one being everywhere.
And there we have it, my Spring Summer 2018 Fashion Trend Report. I think there is a nice mixture this year, and something for everyone to try. What trends have caught your eye? Let me know in the comments below!
