Hand up who feels like Christmas was ages ago? Well, technically, it was last year so it’s no wonder the January Blues are hitting people hard. Whilst Christmas is about a lot more than presents, I was amazingly fortunate to be spoilt with gifts. Now, I know these posts are a bit controversial, with some liking them, and some thinking it’s a bit braggy. Personally, these blog posts are my favourite to read and I will happily watch Christmas Haul videos on YouTube in the middle of July. I always want to create that I would want to read, so I’ve decided to make a “what I got for Christmas post”, as I’ve done pretty much every year since 2012. I don’t think I should have to put a disclaimer in that I, in no way, am trying to brag and that I’m extremely grateful for everything I received over the holiday period, but for the sake of this post I will. If haul posts aren’t your thing, I have plenty of other content for you to check out.
So on that note, let’s get started.
I think I’ve mentioned in previous posts that I have a really small family with pretty much all of it being on my Mum’s side. Knowing I love to have the odd pamper session now and again, my Aunt got me this cute set from Baylis & Harding set which has some foot cream, foot soak & the softest slipper soaks I’ve ever felt! It’s also common knowledge that I’m a puzzle and game geek. If there’s a challenge going, I’ll want to try to solve it. I’ve masted The Sixty-Six puzzle that my Cousins gifted me, but I’m yet to conquer the Mensa Ice Cube Challenge. Oh, and those yummy Hotel Chocolate chocolates? Well, they were delicious.
I don’t know about you, but I absolutely love stocking fillers. A couple of years behind everyone, I finally got a light box. Oh, and naturally it’s in rose gold. I was super excited to see a Twiddle Cube in my stocking. For those of you who don’t know, I suffer from anxiety quite badly. Although fidget spinners didn’t really do anything to help me, I’ve heard amazing things about Twiddle Cubes, which have loads of things to play with; buttons, cogs etc. It also seems that my parents pay attention to me when I rave about products and I was delighted to see a mini travel size Real Techniques Contour Brush in my stocking. If you’re yet to try this brush, it blends contour powder perfectly. My parents don’t usually get me beauty products, being unsure of shades or if I already have it, but this year they took a risk and slipped in a product from Clarins; the 4-Colour All-In-One Pen. I’m going to do a full review on it because it’s the best thing I’ve ever seen. Remember those clicky pens that have different colours? Well this is that, but with 3 eyeliners and 1 lip liner. My mum said she thought it would be ideal for when I’m travelling and, to be honest, I think this will be a staple in my travel make-up bag. Lastly, I can’t not mention how beautiful these bath flowers are! A bit like bath melts, I don’t know how I’m going to face using them.
Now, if you’re not from the UK (and if you are to be honest), you’re probably thinking, “Jess, you’re 25, why have you got stuffed toy carrots?” Well, there’s a story behind them. In the UK Christmas adverts a massive thing, and for the last two years I have loved the Kevin the Carrot adverts for Aldi. This year Aldi realised Kevin merchandise to match the adverts, with all proceeds going to charity. Unfortunately, I found out a little too late and it had all sold out and was of course, gutted. I even tried to get the baby carrots when they announced their release day, but apparently they all sold out within 30 minutes! Anyway to cut a long story short, somehow my parents found a shop that mustn’t have been very popular, and managed to get me the entire set. Honestly, this could be the best present ever. A close second is my beautiful pink frilly flamingo umbrella. I feel like a sassy Mary Poppins when I’m holding this and it’s just me all over.
Of course I got some more games, and my parents tried to focus on travel sizes, because, obviously I travel. It’s always nice to pack a game as an easy ice breaker, especially if you’re having a quiet night in. Apart from the classic, I am so excited to play the Around The World in 80 Questions game. I’d like to think I have a good geographical knowledge so this should be interesting. I think the best game I received was Strategic Thinking. Back in Primary School, this was my absolute favourite game and I’d always want to play it when we had our ‘games hour’. Clearly some things stay the same! Because I have a dog that is into anything and everything, I rarely have lit candles around my house. I’m a massive fan of diffusers and this one smells so delicious. With a “Mint Creme” scent, it smells exactly like an After Eight.
Lastly, let’s have a look at the travel-themed gifts. So, as you know I’m always on the lookout for ways to document memories, and my travel adventures are no different. I love globes so was excited when I saw this cork globe under my tree. The perfect size to sit on my desk, it’s great for mapping out my trips, and giving me major wanderlust. What I love the most about it is that the USA states are all marked because, as you all know, I’ve travelled far and wide in the USA and it’s nice to really see how many states I’ve been to. If I needed anymore wanderlust, the Lonely Planet Ultimate Travelist is what I need. Packed with the most beautiful photos and location tips, it’s all you need to plan the perfect bucket list. Finally, I’m headed to Traverse in Rotterdam this Spring and plan on only taking a cabin case. I’ve never actually done the whole hand-luggage only thing, so my parents stepped in and kitted me out. I am absolutely in love with this set, and will definitely be travelling in style. Some airlines let you bring a smaller second piece of hand luggage and I love that this set includes that second bag. Oh, and on top of all this, my parents bought my flights to Amsterdam in May!
So those were all the amazing gifts I got for Christmas. I was extremely spoilt by my friends and family and so grateful for everything I received. As you can see what did you get for Christmas? Let me know in the comments below!
