There’s been a lack of fashion around these parts lately, hasn’t there?! Well thankfully that’s going to change today. If you’ve been missing style, you’ll get your fashion fix in today’s post, autumn winter trend style. It’s become a bit of a tradition for me to do a new season trend report, and not one to break traditions, I thought it was about time I did it again.
Whilst I love looking at s/s style, a/w is definitely my favourite season to wear so I’m pretty happy to be packing away my summer maxi dresses and cuddling up in cosy cardigans. I’ve chosen 10 of the top trends that were featured on the catwalk throughout Fashion Month and even given you a little bit of inspiration on how to wear them. So let’s get started!
You only have to step one foot onto the high street to know that red is the only colour to be seen in this season. Personally, I can’t get enough of the shade, and have my eyes firmly set on this faux leather mini from River Island. For some reason my mum absolutely hates the colour red. She likes it on other people, but just can’t stand wearing it herself. For people like my mum, I’d recommend choosing something with a bit of red detailing, like a slogan tee with red text, or even a pair of red earings. These little touches will add a pop of colour to an outfit and give a subtle nod to the trend without fully committing.
Seen on the catwalk of Balenciaga, Mulberry and Celine, statement tights are one trend I can definitely get on board with. I know tights aren’t the first thing that comes to mind when you thing of top fashion trends, but they have the power to make an outfit. Embellished options were seen everywhere (snap these up for £12!) but I love the large spot tights from House of Holland for Pretty Polly. Fun and extremely practical for UK weather, these tights will update your wardrobe instantly.
Fur, Feathers & Fluff
Whenever you decide to update your a/w wardrobe, don’t forget to look out for the big three: fur, feathers and fluff. That’s right my friends, fashion has gone cuddly this season thanks to the likes of Prada, Marni and Sonia Rykiel featuring these textures in their collections. Able to make any outfit instantly luxurious, it really doesn’t matter which one you choose. I have my eye on this fluffy nude jacket from boohoo for in the day, and a black faux fur jacket to coverup at night.
Featured in both Dolce & Gabbana’s and Versace’s collections, slogan tees are here to stay. I feel like I’m going back to teenage Jess again with this trend, but definitely in the good way. Focusing on slogans that empower or support a cause, they are the easiest way to channel a relaxed vibe. Looking around the internet, Pretty Little Thing has one of the best choices. I am obsessed with this 70’s inspired with this ‘Don’t Settle’ slogan t-shirt, also available in black for just £10!
When I had to dress smartly for work, I could never find anything remotely fashionable. Now that I have a casual dress code, the fashion world decides tailoring is cool. I give up. Bad timing aside, tailoring, and in particular grey tailoring, is huge this season thanks to Victoria Beckham, Alexander Wang and Stella McCartney. Of course you can opt for a blazer, or co-ord set, but I have my eye firmly set on this Checked Jumpsuit by Boutique available at Topshop. Layered over a cream turtle neck and paired with mules, the heritage look has never been so easy.
When glitter is involved, I don’t need to be told twice. Seen at Saint Laurent and Balmain, sparkle is in fashion just in time for the festive season (oops I said it. Soz). Opt for full on glitterball for a night out or choose subtle accessories to give a nod to the trend whilst the sun is still shining. As a complete magpie, I know a thing or two about sparkly items, and I have to say, these diamante boots from Public Desire are the stuff dreams are made of. My dreams anyway.
I don’t know about you, but, for me, autumn winter fashion is all about layering. Cosy cardigans and comfy jumpers might be warm, but they don’t exactly do much in terms of giving you a shape do they? Thankfully waist belts were seen throughout Fashion Month, so we have a little helping hand. Now, everyone has seen the Chloe Faye bag right? That beautiful creation with the metal hoop detail? Well if this waist belt from Lamoda doesn’t scream Chloe, but at a fraction of the very large price tag, then I don’t know what else will!
If you’re looking to invest in one item that will be in fashion every year, checks should be your go to. Part of the heritage look, checks always appear during a/w, and to be honest, I absolutely love them. Usually I stick to red patterns, but this yellow tube skirt from New Look has caught my eye. Super easy to style, it’s like an updated version of Cher’s iconic co-ord from Clueless.
Everyone loves a good throwback, and this autumn winter we’re channelling the 70’s. Seen in the Chloe, MaxMara, Calvin Klein and Mulberry collections, 70’s are well and truly in fashion again. I’m hunting down the perfect winter maxi dress, and think I may have found it in the shape of this viscose dress from H&M. Paired with a floppy hat, waist belt and boots, it’s the perfect a/w combo.
Not a fan of girly maxi dresses? Soft leather might be your answer. Tough enough to make a statement, but still feminine, soft leather is great for updating your wardrobe without changing your overall style. Whilst the obvious choice might be to go for a new jacket, I love this black faux leather frill mini skirt from River Island. With frills that rival the dancing girl emoji, this skirt is a must-have piece!
So that’s it, the top 10 autumn winter fashion trends of 2017. Personally, I couldn’t choose a favourite out of them, but could you? What’s your favourite trend? Let me know in the comments below!
