Every time I look at old photographs, and see what I was wearing I cringe. Back then, I thought I looked so cool, but not so much now. That's the thing with fashion, it's always changing and personal style tends to evolve as you get older. Now that I'm in my 20's I'd like to think I have a rough idea of what I generally like, girly, classic shaping, pretty detailing, vintage-inspired, but that doesn't mean I can't experiment with other looks when I feel like something different.

The other day I got a pleasant surprise when an Amazon parcel landed on my doorstep. I'd pre-ordered Map My Style by Dom & Ink over the festive period with the aim of helping me to experiment more with fashion. Packed full of fun activities from colour combinations and prints to makeup and hair, the book encourages you to have fun whilst learning about your general style. Aside from the amazing illustrations (even stick men are above my artistic abilities), I was pleasantly surprised that all body shapes and ethnicities are featured in the book and there are even pages to help you love yourself! Whilst some of you may not see how such a simple act as drawing your own body shape in a heart could help your self-esteem, seeing so many body shapes glamorously represented really does help you think more positively about yourself and make you excited about fashion.

Overall I would 100% recommend you pick a copy of this book up. The perfect way to spend a rainy weekend, it has made me step outside my comfort zone and try new combinations. You don't have to be the best doodler to benefit from Map My Style, an interest in fashion is enough!

How do you keep fashion fun?

  1. That book looks like a seriously good purchase, I particularly love the sections dedicated to loving yourself. I'm big into body positivity and self love this year, its something that I really need to learn for my own happiness and self esteem and as this looks like a really interactive and creative book as well I think it's something I might just purchase! Thank you for introducing me to it :) xo

  4. Hey Jessica! This book sounds right up my alley with the body positivity message! I'm crap at doodling though, so maybe if I get my artistic friend to help me out with this I'll be good! It's so nice to see how far fashion and beauty have come. Growing up I never felt really represented in fashion and beauty (petite, minority) but I loved it desperately. I'm so psyched to check this out.
