SS '13 in 13 #3

Boo, its the last in the series of my Spring Summer Trends. I know a lot you already will know the trends from the endless features in magazines, but its always helpful to be reminded of them and see different takes on the key looks of the season. If you fancy seeing the previous two posts click here, but this week I've saved my favourite trends for last.
SS 13 3a

I think this season the trends are perfect for anyone. If you weren't won over by the neon brights, the candy hues may be a bit more up your street. I would definitely go the whole 1950's house wive style with this, making it very lady like and demure. Aldo has some really beautiful accessories in pastel tones perfect for spring summer weddings.
SS '13 3b

Following on from candy colours is another lady like detail, this time focusing on accessories. Bags with top handles are key to the hollywood heroine look. I have the biggest crush on the Mulberry Bryn, so fingers crossed the high street hurry up and make some good dupes.
SS '13 #3c

First there was cinema, then television followed, so it was only a matter of time this trend transferred into fashion. 3D flowers were everywhere on the catwalks, from embroidery to full on petals. I can't wait to dress this up for a really girly festival look! Miss Selfridges have some beautiful dresses and definitely check out Crown & Glory or Dolly Bow Bow for a crown.
SS 13 #3d

There definitely seems to be a strong Asian theme this season. Think obi belts, kimono sleeves and origami pleats. I'm on the hunt for a lovely embroidered kimono to cover up my arms on cool summer nights.
ss 13 3e

Lastly are the two keys shapes of the season; cocoon & trapeze. To help you differentiate I've put all the trapeze items on the top row, and the cocoon on the bottom. These shapes are so flattering and wearable, I really urge everyone to have a go! I'd recommend buy subtle pieces as an investment, as these shapes are classics that will just keep appearing time and time again.

What are your favourite trends for this season? Have you snapped up any pieces yet?

Soap & Glory: Clean On Me

Soap & Glory Clean On Me Creamy Clarifying Shower Gel 500ml - £5.50
Even though this is the first time I've blogged about the brand, I am obsessed with Soap & Glory. When I say obsessed, I basically mean I'm not far off from trying all of their products. The packaging definitely has something to do with my love affair; I'm a sucker for anything retro and vintage, and with their quirky fun product names it was always destined to be a match made in heaven. Combined with the fact that their products are usually amazing value for money and excellent quality, Soap & Glory really is a brand I return to time after time.

One of the products I seem to always repurchase is Clean On Me. This must be my 4th bottle (at least) and still remains one of my favorite shower gels. The actual product is subtle and fresh smelling; nothing over powering. Although it contains Mandarin peel extract, I actually find this smells a bit like vanilla (yum), but that might just be me. In addition to a lovely smell, it contains body lotion too, making your skin silky smooth when you can finally drag yourself out of the shower. It's great for people like me who simply haven't got the patience to moisturise fully every single day; the lazy girls shower gel. I really like the pump as well, meaning the gel doesn't go everywhere, making it nice and practical. To top it off, a bottle lasts absolutely ages so you get real value for your money.

I think it's pretty obvious I adore this product, and just think anyone would like this because it is so universally appealing. If you fancy trying this out, its available at Boots stores and online for a bargain price of £5.50!

Have you tried Soap & Glory's Clean on Me? What's your favorite shower gel?

Fitness 13: Apps

Each month I've decided to dedicate a post to all things fitness related to keep me on track with my new years resolution to get fit. This month I'm looking at my favorite fitness apps (using itunes) to help you on your quest for a lifestyle change.

Get Running (Couch to 5K)

Image from: theiphonemom.com
I absolutely hate running. I find it boring and I get out of breathe so easily, not because I'm unfit (apparently), but because I don't breathe right when I'm running. I really want to increase my stamina but before using this I had no idea how to do it. This app is a 9 week regime with 3 runs a week aimed at slowly increasing your run time and distance until eventually you can do 5k! Don't get me wrong, you still have to do the hard work and actually run, but it really helps you to build up your fitness in a manageable and realistic way. After doing this for a couple of weeks I really noticed a difference, so for anyone like me then I'd definitely give this ago!

Zombie, Run!

If you still find running a bit boring this will hopefully liven things up. With this app, you are literally running from zombies. You can actually here them chasing you! Just start the app up and run, and as you do you will collect supplies and points which you can later use to build and play the game. The more you run the further you will get in the game. What's better you can use this for walking, jogging and running, as long as your moving this will work. The perfect motivation. Warning: It gets addictive.

Like your own private boot camp, for a fraction of the price. You select your fitness level and every time you use the app, your "trainer" will give you a completely different workout so you never get bored or do the same workout twice. I recommend doing the fitness test before you start, using the app for 2 weeks, then re-doing the fitness test. Although the workouts are hard work, you'll see huge improvements, so its more than worth it.

Have you used any of these app's before or use any different ones?

SS '13 in 13 #2

This is the second instalment of my Spring Summer 2013 fashion trends (click here if you missed the first). I've narrowed down the mountains of trends and micro-trends to 13 key looks (for 2013 ;) ), with this post dealing with #5 to #8.
SS Trends #2a

A lovely contrast to candy (wait til the next, and final instalment), bold colours have played heavily in a lot of campaigns  perfect for showing off a tan. I personally love this look because it is so versatile  and everyone can have a go. Go full on head-to-toe, choose one piece, just accessories, or even simply adding a pop of colour to you make-up and nails. This will fit in with anyone's personal style.

SS 13 #2b

Finger's crossed you invested in the sport's luxe trend last year (click here to see my post dedicated to it), because like most trends, this is returning. Think loose fitting pants with elasticated cuffs paired with heels, and body-con with a bomber jacket over and high-tops and you'll be following the right lines. Racer back items are particularly good at nodding subtly at the trend. Accessories wise, mesh detailing and contrasting pipping are key. I recommend looking to brands like Nike for luxe basics, especially in their lounge range and designer collaborations, and New Look have some amazing heeled high tops.
SS 13 #2c

If you've followed me for a while you will know I have a complete girl crush on Alexa Chung and her sense of style. Therefore, I jumped for joy when I found out dungarees and pinafores were actually 'cool' to be seen in. I know a lot of people aren't too keen, but I really think this is down to how you style them. Clever combinations of accessories and being smart when it comes to the style of pinafore/dungarees you choose will make the biggest difference.
SS 13 #2d

Lastly, the grunge look is back with a vengeance. Be prepared to embrace it, especially at festivals, with over sized band tee's and beanies hats. I'd look at Red Rocks (ASOS marketplace), for amazing unique denim pieces.

e.l.f. studio Mascara & Shadow Shield

e.l.f. Mascara & Shadow Shield RRP £3.75
I'm no Tanya Burr when it comes to eye make-up. Don't get me wrong, I can do it nicely, and I've finely perfected the smokey eye and various other looks, but I'm no MUA. If I'm in a rush, which I usually am, I can guarantee my mascara will smudge or my eye shadow will decide to fall down onto my under-eye concealer and refuse to budge no matter how much i swish my fan brush. To solve my devastating issue e.l.f. have obliged with this little beauty.

The amazing thing about this tool is that it can be used over eye, and under eye so it is like a make up guardian angel to stop any mis-haps. It also works on both eyes because its reversible  making application fool proof. When I ordered this I was a bit dubious about the quality of the actual shield, but its actually a kind of rubber material and seems really durable (and easy to clean!).

I love any tool that helps me make my make-up look better, so I love this! I would really recommend it if your like me and just completely mistake prone.

Have you tried this e.l.f. offering or have any other tools to make life easier?

SS '13 in 13 #1

Last season I did a series of post's dedicated to the key trends and they proved to be pretty popular. This time, because there seems to be so many micro trends, I thought I'd pick the 13 that I think are going to be everywhere, because its 2013, a lot of thought went into that. The trends are in no particular order of preference, its just easier to digest than one humongous post.

SS 13 #1A

First up is the holographic, shimmer trend. Think back to the future, sci-fi chic.  ASOS have some fab pieces, including some amazing leggings. I really like the accessories and bags too to add a subtle hint at this trend. Holographic and glitter nail varnish and make up are another way to get in on the trend without being full on.

SS 13 #1B

Second is monochrome. Everyone can easily do this, and its probably no surprise its playing a big part in fashion, as this one is always popping up. I suggest playing Cruella De Vil, but use a bright pink or coral instead of red to make it more SS appropriate.

SS 13 #1C

Next is tuxedo. So many designers sent models tailored up, its set to be copied majorly on the high street. Opt for pastel shades or a shorts combo to keep in with the season and your bang on trend.

SS13 #1D

Last for this post is grids. The whole 60's and 70's make an appearance with super short skirts, so make sure your square. Topshop and Forever 21 are full off the print, so have a look to see if anything catches your eye. If your not keen on full on square, why not try some nail art?

There's two more posts on the SS 13 trends so make sure you check them out.

Melt Scented Candles

When I got asked if I wanted to test out a scented candle I jumped at the chance. I love scented products and I'm actually quite surprised I haven't ventured more into the scented candle world. Well, this is going to change after experiencing the hand-poured offerings from Melt Candles. Written apologies to my bank are now being accepted.

I received the Verbena & Clary Sage Scented Candle(*) and fragrance of this  is quite possibly one of my favorite. Ever. I couldn't put my finger on why I loved it so much until I read the description Melt gave. "It smells like the most gorgeous chap (or at least one who wears the most exquisite fragrance)". And there is the explanation. It smells how I imagine  Ryan Gosling would smell, any clarification would be most welcome. With 70+ hours of burning, this is the best next thing to a full on love affair. Pretend joking apart I really think this would appeal to both ladies and gents. Its not too feminine to put guy's off, but still has the relaxingly yummy quality girls look for. The perfect compromise in my opinion, and ideal if your after a house warming or wedding present, or even an indulgent treat for yourself. Packaging wise, it is so elegant. The circular box feels so luxurious, its hard not to be excited and anticipate great things from Melt. I adore the glass design too, simple, subtle and sophisticated, fitting in to any home decor, but adding a more sumptuous feeling at the same time.

With the added bonus of being made in England, scented candles by Melt make the perfect gift. Ideal for valentine's day, which is only 10 days away! If you want to get you Melt fix, have a look at their website themeltco.com

Monthly Mash Up

For most people January is a bit of a rubbish month and this month for me has been pretty blah, not going to lie. Since GCSE's (my high school did mocks, like most at Christmas) January has meant exams. This year though it means finals, what a scary thought! I had two exams and an essay (I have a ridiculous amount at Easter though) and they fingers and toes crossed went well. We will see in two weeks how well.

After my exams I just tried to chill out a bit, that beautiful arch is at my University. But, my immune system didn't want to play ball this month, and I've suffered with bronchitis. Touch wood I'm seeing the back end of it now.

Then the snow came to the UK. Keele University is quite open to the elements, its on top of a huge hill and there's a lot of fields around, so we got it pretty bad. I actually despise the snow, I have no balance at all, so I'm just a walking, probably falling, hazard. Very proud to say I didn't fall though. I say this, but come summer when we have the odd hot, hot for the UK standards, week I'll be moaning saying I'm too hot.

It was one of closest friends Fay's birthday as well, and she had a Fairytale themed birthday night out. Of course I got far too into the theme and had a proper snow white dress, bow, bag and necklace. All I needed was a small army of woodland creatures and Walt Disney himself would have been proud.

Now a new semester in halls means another fire drill. These are always at night and at stupid times. I'm a rubbish sleeper as it is at the moment, it takes me ages to settle down, so when it went off at 5.30 a.m. I was not impressed. Seeing as I had to be up for 8 anyway, I was a grouchy toddler the next day with the lack of sleep.

Things I'm loving this month to end on a positive note. I'm addicted to Grey's Anatomy. I've never really got into it, always missing seasons so never following it, but I started watching it from Season 1 and wow I'm hooked. I've just finished season 3 and am straight into season 4. Obsessed is not the word.

With the heating on full blast, I've started to suffer dry skin for the first time in my life. So after a bit of a rummage through my sample box I discovered this Caudalie Thirst Quenching Serum and hoped for the best, never trying the brand before but hearing good things. I now want the full size. It is actually amazing. After one use my dry skin was gone. Like I said I don't suffer with dry skin, but my skin feels so amazing, it may be worth investing.

So, that's my month. Nothing great to be honest, but January is always a complete fail of a month for me anyway, so it was expected. All I'm ready to do is spend another month waking up to my Louis Smith calendar ;)
