MUA are definitely my go-to high street brand. To me they optimize the entire philosophy of the U.K. high street. To me they are like the Kate Middleton (pre-wedding) of the royal family that is the beauty world. A bit more fun, fresh and full of energy, willing the try new things and take on-board feedback, fashion conscious , aesthetically pleasing and most importantly, price conscious. In fact, just like the Duchess, the quality of MUA products generally leaves you playing a game of spot the difference when comparing more high end alternatives. Last Wednesday I summarised the key A/W beauty looks, and then a mere two days later MUA released two brand new eye palettes which, true to form, bring catwalk couture to the girl-next-door.
The first palette I’m going to show you is the Matte palette. For £4, you get 10 beautiful matte shades in amazingly wearable shades. The packaging is the same as other MUA palettes, sleek black plastic with a clear front to let you see the shades. However, what I love is that MUA have listened to feedback and gone with square pans instead of circular ones. For me, this is a massive improvement because not only do you get more product, but its easier to get your brush into. To top it off, the shades now have names, not numbers, making it easier to refer and just giving the brand a more luxe feel. The pigmentation of these shades is really good. Although the lighter shades are slightly less pigmented, they are perfect for a subtle highlight or a soft daytime smokey eye. The quality is their usual high standard, being very bendable with little fall out. Whilst I’ve not had time to give these a full test drive, the formula seems the same as the other palettes so I’d put my money on them lasting around the 9 hour mark with a primer under, but I’ll let you know as soon as I’ve had chance to play around some more. Overall this is an amazing dupe for the Balm’s Meet Matt(e) range, but far more affordable. I don’t think its going to be long before this is a sell out.
Next is the Smokin Palette. I was most excited about ordering this because it looked the perfect dupe for Urban Decay’s Smoked Palette which I’ve been lusting over for forever. For £6 you get 4 matte nude shades and 6 shimmering jewel tones in addition to a black eye pencil. The packaging is identical to the Matte palette but there is one slight flaw. The eye pencil is so well stuck down to avoid damage in-transit it is practically impossible to remove, and when you do manage to remove it, its sharpened it breaks causing you to have to resharpen it. I think maybe some simple tape over the pencil might be sufficient as the current method does give you a bit of product wastage. As with the Matte palette the quality and shade selection is amazing and the perfect tones for A/W. The eye pencil is extremely creamy, a vivid black, extremely blendable and doesn’t drag at all helping to finish off your smokey eye.
If you haven’t guess already I absolutely adore these new additions to the MUA collection and think over the next couple of months they will be getting a lot of love. If your yet to snap these up, I’d do so fast because I don’t think it will be long before both sell out.
What do you think of MUA? Do you like their new additions?
